Business Report features OpenAdvantage

Our team can help to identify and evaluate the latest developments and determine how these technologies fit in with existing solutions and IT requirements, said Paul Cooper, assistant director.

He told Business Report that Open Source software is the fastest growing force in IT and that the breadth of applications and the benefits experienced by IT developers and users is incredible.

But one of the many challenges facing the IT small enterprise is finding the time to research and evaluate the plethora of Open Source Developments.

One company to benefit from OpenAdvantage’s help and advice is Ultralogic Solutions of Staffordshire, which has been providing business process solutions with an emphasis on using IT to meet the needs of clients for over 10 years.

Managing Director John Driscoll said the firm had been evaluating some Open Source software for developing content-managed websites, when it found a behavioural issue with one product while running on Ultralogic’s Windows-based test system.

“At the suggestion of the technical guys at OpenAdvantage, the issue was duly logged with the Open Source developer community and we assumed that we would have to wait for the next version release,” said Mr Driscoll.

“We were astounded when a fix was posted on-line within a few hours.  Our product evaluation was then able to continue straight away, greatly helping the project we were working on.

“We have since received focussed help as part of OpenAdvantage’s FastTrack programme and this opened up new opportunities for us. Development work has began on solutions which can be integrated with PDA’s, continues John Driscoll.
